Ah Canada

ITI Bloggers June 5th, 2005

A 2 hour flight on an Air Canada Dash 8 brought me to Toronto, where it was indeed encouraging to see an official welcome to the SLA convention before (painlessly) going through customs. A couple of librarians on my flight told me they had been unable to attend last year’s conference in Nashville and had followed the blog "as a substitute." Nice words, but I’m sure they’ll get more out of being here in person rather than just reading our take on the conference. One, for example, is taking one of the many pre-conference sessions scheduled to start at 8 a.m. on Sunday (there were others offered on Saturday) and we don’t blog those.

The exhibit hall opens at noon today. If you want to talk to us, or leave a message, come by the Information Today booth.

The Information Today blogging team is gearing up for the annual SLA conference, which this year is in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The exhibit hall opens on Sunday afternoon, the 5th of June, but business meetings and continuing education sessions will be going on before that. Speaking of business meetings, there’s a big change this year in the association’s annual business meeting — it’s in two parts. The first piece is Tuesday EVENING, from 5:15 to (probably) 6:15. And that’s when voting on bylaws amendments will take place. The amendments are a proposal to allow members to vote electronically and to align the SLA governance year with its fiscal year. There’s a forum set up for comment and discussion.

After the meeting ends on Tuesday, it will be continued on Wednesday at 9 a.m. for installation of new officers.
