Conference NewsNotes–October 2010

  • The Search Engine Strategies (SES) Chicago meeting on October 18-22 will have a special focus on holiday search tactics, digital marketing trends for an election year, and the latest social media strategies.  Featured speakers include the former CMO of Eastman Kodak Co. and two representatives from Google.  Organized by Third Door Media, the SES meetings concentrate on the marketing aspects of search engines, including such technologies as search engine optimization (SEO), analytics, and e-commerce.
  • Speakers at Smart Content, a new conference occurring October 19 in New York, have been announced.  According to the announcement, the conference “begins with a Visionaries Panel with Dries Buytaert, creator of Drupal, Natasha Fogel, EVP at Edelman StrategyOne, and Mark Stefik from XEROX PARC, followed by Jeff Fried of Microsoft explaining What Business Innovators Need to Know about Content Analytics.”  Then there will be “talks by Rachel Lovinger, content strategy lead at Razorfish, Darrell W. Gunter, EVP/CMO at Collexis, and Randall Snare & Elizabeth McGuane of iQ Content, Dublin”.  There will also be a series of “lightning talks” (5 to 8 minutes long) on innovative smart-content solutions, followed by five Application Spotlight talks.
  • The International Conference on Trends for Scientific Information Professionals (formerly owned by Infonortics, Ltd and now owned by Dr. Haxel Congress and Event Management and still known by its former acronym, ICIC) in Vienna, Austria on October 24-27 will feature talks on such interesting topics as IP trends and patent information, searching chemical formulations, mining chemical  patents, visualization tool for chemical structures in patents, and semantic technologies in chemical content.
