I stopped at the Inmagic booth to ask Mike Cassettari, VP of marketing and business development, how things were going for the company in the tough economy. Not only did the company have some product news to announce, he proudly pointed to its recent customer wins and considerable momentum in the marketplace, especially in the special libraries and knowledge management markets. “We’re doing ok. We have the right technology for this economy,” he says. Customers are turning to Inmagic because of its robust technology, ease of use and deployment, and attractive price point-the price is reasonable and quite affordable for enterprises. The company also has a very large installed base of customers, which is proving recession proof.

As a measure of the current interest in social knowledge management, Inmagic recently hosted a joint webinar with KMWorld magazine that drew more than 1,100 registrants. Polling questions during the webinar indicated that two-thirds of the organizations are using Microsoft SharePoint for knowledge management and most have social technology under evaluation. So, it was no surprise that the product announced at SLA was the latest version of Inmagic Presto 3.1, the company’s social knowledge management platform that now offers SharePoint interoperability. The compatibility allows users to augment and leverage their investments in existing infrastructure and technology. Other new benefits in Presto 3.1 include improved collaboration, information discovery, and content management functionalities as requested by customers. It will be generally available in 3Q 2009.

Phil Green, CTO of Inmagic says, “With Inmagic Presto 3.1, companies can enhance their SharePoint environment with a cost-effective, off-the-shelf solution suited to their needs. They can create internal, secure knowledge communities around enterprise content, with sophisticated social, search, security, and library workflow capabilities not found in SharePoint. The use of Web Parts, Presto, and SharePoint together can deliver tremendous value to an organization’s bottom line.”

Cassettari says the company’s roadmap includes even tighter integration of library management capabilities into the workflow, continued SharePoint integration enhancements, deeper integration with social networking technologies, and geographic expansion into the European and Asian markets. It’s great to see a company that has hit the hot button for its customers-I don’t think it’s magic; it’s being tuned into customers’ needs.
