Demo Derby Kicks off Internet Librarian Program

The Monterey Public Library was host this evening to a special event for public librarians, the IL05 Demo Derby.

Pictured here (l to r) are Kim Bui-Burton, Library Director, Monterey Public Library; Jane Dysart, IL05 Program Chair; and Steven Cohen, author of Library Stuff blog and host for tonight’s event.

Ms. Bui-Burton explained that the library in Monterey, founded in 1849, was the first public library in California. It began as a subscription library and nearly a fourth of the original collection was in Spanish, she said.

Cohen got a particular kick out of the gong the library uses to announce that the library is about to close.
