Choosing the Right CMS

I’m not a Webmaster but I popped into Track C (Web Design & Development) to hear Jeff Wisniewski of the University of Pittsburgh talk about choosing a content management system. While he didn’t touch on specific products, he outlined both core and advanced features of CMS systems and how they differed from portal solutions. He reviewed things like support for multiple delivery channels (XML, HTML, RSS, WAP), permissioning, search capabilities, integration with existing directory servers, etc., and said the key issue was to focus on what problems you are trying to solve—define your objectives. Sounds like good advice for all technology decisions.
